Culture Ireland, in partnership with Dublin Theatre Festival and Irish Theatre Institute, invites submissions from Irish artists and companies who wish to present recent productions to international delegates as part of this year’s International Theatre eXchange (ITX), taking place on Friday 2 October during Dublin Theatre Festival.
International Theatre eXchange (ITX) brings together leading national and international programmers, presenters, producers and festival directors attending Dublin Theatre Festival. It provides a unique opportunity for Irish artists and companies to showcase work that is ready to tour internationally and to develop new relationships with presenters and partners from around the world.
Successful applicants will be invited to deliver a six-minute presentation introducing their production to national and international delegates, followed by opportunities for networking and informal conversations throughout ITX.
ITX aims to:
Showcase outstanding Irish theatre to international presenters, programmers and festival directors.
Support artists and producers to develop international touring and partnership opportunities.
Facilitate new relationships and strengthen the international visibility of Irish theatre artists and companies.
Selected artists will work with Culture Ireland and Irish Theatre Institute in advance of the event to prepare and refine their presentation and to maximise opportunities for international touring and partnership development.
Previous participants have secured international presentations, touring opportunities, co-commissions and long-term programming relationships following their participation in ITX.
Qualifying Criteria:
Professional theatre artists and companies are eligible to apply.
The proposed production must have premiered within the past 24 months and be ready for international touring.
Applicants should include evidence of professional or independent critical recognition where available.
Applicants must be able to provide high-quality video documentation of the production.
Successful applicants must be available to participate in preparatory meetings with Culture Ireland and Irish Theatre Institute in advance of the festival, deliver their presentation at ITX and engage with international delegates throughout the event.
Please note: Productions presented previously as part of Dublin Theatre Festival, previous Culture Ireland Pitching Sessions, or which have already received a significant international presentation outside Ireland will not be eligible for consideration. Productions previously presented as part of Culture Ireland’s Edinburgh Showcase are also ineligible.
Assessment:
Applications will be assessed based on the following:
Fulfilment of the qualifying criteria and completeness and quality of the application.
The quality of the production in terms of performance, production values and content.
The readiness of the production for international touring.
The capacity of the artist or company to capitalise on international opportunities arising from participation.
The suitability of the work in relation to current programming interests of likely international delegates attending ITX.
Selection will be made jointly by Culture Ireland, Dublin Theatre Festival and Irish Theatre Institute.
