Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, has announced funding of over €1.6 million for the promotion of Irish arts globally through Culture Ireland’s Regular Grants Programme.
The funding will benefit 192 projects taking place over 48 countries, covering circus, dance, film, literature, music, opera, theatre and visual arts.
Announcing the grants, Minister O’Donovan said: “It gives me great pleasure to announce this Culture Ireland grant round of over €1.6 million, the highest single grant round in the history of the organisation. It highlights the Government’s continued commitment and focus to supporting Irish artists and cultural organisations in reaching international audiences.”
- Circus: Hippanamaleta presenting Runners (Spain,Portugal), Kathleen Doherty presenting ANOIS at Imaginarius Festival (Portugal), Fanzini Productions presentation of Ballet Poulet by at Festival Internacional de Artes Vivas (Colombia).
- Dance: touring supports for Mufutau Yusuf touring Impasse (USA), Junk Ensemble presenting Dances Like a Bomb (Switzerland), OD Works presenting Specky Clark & Hard to be soft, A Belfast Prayer (France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Australia) and Teac Damsa presenting MÁM by Michael Keegan-Dolan (Denmark).
- Film: support towards attendance by Irish filmmakers at significant international film festivals such as the 27th Chicago Film Festival (USA), Stockfish film and industry festival (Iceland), 29th British & Irish Film Festival (France) the Toronto Irish Film Festival (Canada).
- Literature: Irish authors appearing at various international literary festivals such as Sydney Writers’ Festival (Australia), the Buenos Aires Book Fair (Chile), Fabula Literary Festival, (Slovenia) and A Feira do Livro (Brazil)
- Music: Support for international tours across the world covering a range of artists and genres including Folk Club Lausanne (Switzerland), Libra Ensemble (Japan), Soda Blonde (USA), Bricknasty (USA), YARD (Wales), Caroline Keane and Tom Delany (USA), Anne-Marie O’Farrell (New Zealand and Hong Kong) and Orkney Folk Festival (Scotland).
- Theatre: Support for international tours, including Brokentalkers (UK), Dan Colley and Riverbank Arts Centre (China), and Deaf Republic (Lithuania, USA)
- Visual Arts: International exhibitions by Irish artists including Diana Copperwhite, Geraldine O’Neill and Paul Nugent (Netherlands); Christine Mackey and Martina O’Brien (Sweden), Beth Fox (India) and Laura Skehan (USA)
- Multidisciplinary: Continued support towards the programme of Irish arts and culture at key festivals and venues including The Registry Theatre (Canada), Belgrade Irish Festival (Serbia), The Irish Cultural Centre Hammersmith (UK) and Craic Fest (USA).
