Supported by Culture Ireland, Literature Ireland will lead the Irish delegation at the Frankfurt Book Fair (20 – 24 October), the largest trade fair for the publishing industry in the world, which returns as an inperson event in 2021.
The Frankfurt Book Fair is a key opportunity for Irish publishers to promote their books and negotiate deals with foreign publishers, selling and buying rights to books in English and foreign language territories and securing key distribution deals. In its most recent inperson edition, it attracted over 7,500 exhibitors and over 250,000 attendees.
The Ireland stand at Frankfurt is managed and delivered by Literature Ireland, who also lead the Irish presence at London Book Fair and other international publishing events.
Literature Ireland promotes of Irish literature overseas. The organisation works to build an international awareness and appreciation of contemporary Irish literature, primarily in translation. Established in 1995, Literature Ireland has, to date, funded the translation of 2,000 works of Irish literature into 57 languages.
As well as its Translation Grants Programme, Literature Ireland runs a Residential Bursary Programme for literary translators, special events for authors and translators, and the publication of New Writing from Ireland, an annual catalogue featuring many new Irish publications.
