Ireland at Tanzmesse 2022

Culture Ireland, in partnership with Dance Ireland, is supporting a delegation of contemporary Irish Dance Artists and companies at the 2022 edition of Tanzmesse in Düsseldorf, Germany from 31 August to 3 September 2022.

Tanzmesse is one of the largest European showcase events dedicated exclusively to contemporary dance and returns to inperson presentation this year for the first time since 2018.

As part of its official showcase programme, Irish artist Laura Murphy will present Abacus, a work for outdoor civic spaces, on the streets of the German city on Saturday 3 September. In addition, Anna Newell Theatre Adventures will pitch their new work Shimmer to an invited audience of programmers, presenters and other industry personnel.

As well as showcase involvement, individual Irish dance artists, choreographers and producers will attend Tanzmesse as delegates, with the support of a travel bursary from Culture Ireland. These delegates are Michelle Cahill (Junk Ensemble), Dawn Prentice (Teaċ Daṁsa), Gwen Van Spÿk (Luke Murphy’s Attic Projects), Monica Munoz Marin and John Scott (John Scott Dance). As well as networking and meeting representatives from the international dance sector, the delegates will be in attendance at the Ireland stand at the event (Area 19 in the Agora space).
