Jazzahead! is one of the most important international industry events for jazz and improvised music. The four-day event attracts more than 3,000 industry attendees from over 55 countries, including concert and festival bookers, labels, publishers, distributors, managers and other industry personnel.
In addition to supporting IMC, Culture Ireland is providing travel bursaries to five individuals who will attend the event representing a range of artists and organisations.
The five Irish delegates who are travelling to Bremen with Culture Ireland support are:
• Matthew Jacobson (Diatribe Records)
• Brian Carson (Moving on Music)
• Sue Rynhart (Vocalist and Composer)
• Kevin Brady (Artist and Booker)
• Eddie Lee (Sligo Jazz Project)
The delegates will work with IMC and Culture Ireland to capitalise on this support and create further opportunities for Irish artists.
Kenneth Killeen, Director of IMC: "Jazzahead! is now a vital industry trade fair and important showcasing event for the jazz sector throughout Europe and, increasingly, the world. We are delighted to be working with Culture Ireland and Jazz from Scotland to increase Ireland's profile considerably for this 2018 edition by having a shared Music From Ireland and Jazz From Scotland booth. This increased visibility will highlight all of the jazz activity throughout Ireland annually to demonstrate the diversity and vibrancy of our domestic scene as well as clearly outlining our geography, size and scope. Thanks to the support of Culture Ireland we also have our largest Irish delegation to date, including programmers, label directors and musicians. Our core message is that we are ready to export, collaborate and integrate, at the highest level, with our European counterparts."
The Irish participation at this year’s Jazzahead! – the largest to date - follows an initial involvement in 2016 with an expanded presence in 2017 and is part of the Music from Ireland Showcase programme.
