Galway 2020 and Tradfest Showcases at this year’s Milwaukee Irish Fest
This week, Culture Ireland supports two Showcase opportunities at Milwaukee Irish Fest, one of the largest Irish Festivals in the world, which opens on 15 August. The Festival attracts more than 130,000 visitors on an annual basis from across North America and beyond.
These Showcase programmes build on Culture Ireland’s relationship with Milwaukee Irish Fest and the support for their programmers to travel to Ireland each year to engage with new Irish artists.
To mark Galway’s designation as European Capital of Culture for 2020, five artists from the Galway region will showcase their music at Milwaukee as part of a special Galway 2020 Showcase.
The five artists, who will each perform across the weekend, include: BackWest, The Kane Sisters, Leo Moran & Padraig Stevens, The Whileaways and We Banjo 3, who are also Cultural Ambassadors for the Galway 2020 event.
Returning for their third visit, Tradfest Temple Bar will also host a showcase of four emerging artists who featured at this year’s Festival across Dublin last January. Each will have at least two opportunities to perform at Milwaukee over the weekend.
These include: Emma Langford, Réalta, Susan O’Neill and Boxing Banjo (pictured above), who participated in the first Culture Ireland/Tradfest Showcase performance last January.
