The two-day interdisciplinary conference will examine the central importance of the written word before, during and after the 1916 Rising, firstly as a source of inspiration, then as the container of the main political message of the Rising itself (the Proclamation of the Irish Republic) and finally as the principal means of reportage, witness, and critique.

There will be lectures by doyen of Irish historians, Roy Foster on Yeats and the Revolutionary generation

CRISIS is a research institute at the Università Roma Tre which works on Irish and Scottish history and literature and their intersections and brings together leading scholars from across Italy who are interested in these subjects. It regularly organises international conferences.
