Artist David Rooney will feature at the Ireland stand in 2016 exhibiting a cross-section of illustrations. The illustrations were commissioned by the Royal Irish Academy for the book ‘1916: Lives and Portraits’, which presents biographies of those deeply involved in the Rising.
Literature Ireland will host a reception for publishers and agents at the Irish stand to introduce the exhibition and contextualise the importance of the centenary. This reception will be attended by the book’s illustrator and one of the editors and will also give Irish publishers the chance to network and promote their titles in an informal atmosphere.
As part of the 2016 commemorations initiative at the London Book Fair, Literature Ireland has also arranged to distribute copies of Books Ireland (which will celebrate its 40th anniversary during the fair with an event at the Irish embassy in London) and the current bumper issue of The Stinging Fly, called In the Wake of the Rising, to international publishers and rights agents during the course of the fair. These journals will, respectively, promote the Irish publishing industry and Irish writers and writing and raise awareness of the importance of the Rising and the commemorations in the context of the country’s literature sector.
