Ireland Literature Exchange is one of the key organisations supported on an annual basis by Culture Ireland. Culture Ireland assists in funding the promotion of Irish literature worldwide largely through the translation of Irish literature into other languages. Since its inception in 1994, the Ireland Literature Exchange has funded the translation of over 1,500 works of Irish literature into fifty languages around the world, thereby increasing the accessibility of Irish literature to readers worldwide.

Culture Ireland funding is used to award translation grants to publishers, host literary translators in Ireland, represent Irish writers at international events, book fairs and festivals and publish catalogues informing about availability of Irish literature in translation. The Frankfurt Book Fair is the next major book fair supported by the Ireland Literature Exchange in partnership with Culture Ireland. This annual book fair encompasses the broad spectrum of the publishing industry and is the global marketplace and leading business-to-business exhibition for rights negotiation and the sale and distribution of content across print, audio, TV, film and digital channels.
