Glasgow Film Festival is one of the leading UK film festivals, and GFF18 takes place Wednesday 21 February - Sunday 4 March.
The country focus for 2018 is Ireland, in a strand of the festival named The Near Shore. Ireland’s booming film industry is the envy of many a small country. Blazing young acting talents from Saoirse Ronan to Barry Keoghan are claiming the world stage. Directors like Lenny Abrahamson and Martin McDonagh are at the very top of their game and the country excels at animation. Ireland has always been a big part of the GFF programme – we opened with Handsome Devil in 2017 – so this year we are celebrating the industry from its bright new talents to its most experienced, inspirational filmmakers. Highlights include The Breadwinner, the latest animated feature from the makers of The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, and Kissing Candice which signals the arrival of the exciting directorial vision from Aoife McArdle.
