The Rite of Spring & Petrushka by Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre at the Galway Arts Festival
Fresh from their success in Sadlers Wells in London, Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre will perform at the Galway Arts Festival at Black Box Theatre from July 13th to 20th.
Galway festival goers will have the opportunity to see incredible dance theatre, with a new interpretation of Stravinsky’s Petrushka performed in Ireland for the first time.
“......there's no doubting the spell of Keegan-Dolan's imagination”, said Judith Mackerell of The Guardian, in her review of the Sadlers Well production in April
...and “Fabulous Beast more than warrant their fabulous name.....” said Matthew Palluch in his review in artsdesk.com
Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre's Artistic Director, Michael Keegan-Dolan reimagines his award-winning version of The Rite of Spring, which premiered at the London Coliseum in 2009 to great critical acclaim. It has been named as one of a few accounts that has truly realised Stravinsky’s vision alongside those of Vaslav Nijinsky, Kenneth MacMillan, Pina Bausch and Léonide Massine.
The double bill will be completed by Keegan-Dolan’s new interpretation of Petrushka, composed by Stravinsky in 1911. Performed by the exquisite dancers of Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre, both pieces together create dance theatre that honours the searing modernity of Stravinsky’s music.
The Rite of Spring / Petrushka is a Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre production with Sadler's Wells in a co-production with Galway Arts Festival, Movimentos Festwochen der Autostadt in Wolfsburg, Brisbane Festival, Galway Arts Festival and Melbourne Festival.
