President Higgins visits the 57th Venice Art Biennale
President Higgins and his wife Sabine visited the 57th Venice Art Biennale on Sunday 21st May 2017.
At the Irish Pavilion they were greeted by Christine Sisk, Director of Culture Ireland who introduced them to Irish artist Jesse Jones and curator Tessa Giblin.
Jesse’s exhibition “Tremble Treble” has been Internationally well received and has attracted high visitor numbers since the opening and President Higgins and Sabine are said to have really enjoyed their visit.
They also visited the International Exhibition in the Arsenale where they viewed many of the installations including one by Berlin based Irish artist Mariechen Danz. Among the pavilions in the Giardini they visited the Dutch Pavilion, where Lucy Cotter is curator of the exhibition “Cinema Olanda” by Dutch artist Wendelien van Oldenborgh.
