Lankum Performs as part of Culture Ireland Delegation at WOMEX 2017
Culture Ireland will lead a delegation to WOMEX World Music Expo which takes place in Katowice, Poland from Wednesday 25 to Saturday 29 October 2017.
This year, in a new initiative, Lankum will perform a special showcase performance on the offWOMEX stage at the International Congress Centre in Katowice on Friday night at 12:45am.
WOMEX has become the most important international professional market for world music of every kind including folk, roots, ethnic and traditional music. The four-day event attracts in excess of 2,000 delegates from over 90 countries, including hundreds of concert and festival bookers, labels, publishers, distributors, managers and the world's media.
Culture Ireland has led a delegation of musicians, agents and promoters to WOMEX since 2010 and supported selected bands to perform at this key showcase event.
Culture Ireland's presence at WOMEX is as a partner in Horizons, an initiative of music export and cultural agencies from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Lankum’s Showcase performance is part of the Horizons at WOMEX programme which includes English and Welsh Artists in an offWOMEX showcase.
In addition to attending networking events and showcase performances, the Irish delegates are also required to attend at the Horizons stand. (Stand Number: 1 – 4, 13-20)
The Irish delegates for WOMEX 2017 are Oisín MacDiarmada (Ceol Productions), Kenneth Killeen (Improvised Music Company), Jonathan Pearson (Band Management) and Martin Nolan (MPI Bands) and Jody Ackland (Booking Agent).
