International Delegates Arrive as Tradfest 2018 Opens in Dublin
This year marks a special year for Culture Ireland’s support of incoming presenters and programmers at Tradfest 2018 which opens in Dublin today.
The Festival showcases the best of Irish and international musicians at venues across Dublin city.
In partnership with Tradfest and Showcase Scotland, 15 international delegates have travelled with Culture Ireland support from the US, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, India and Denmark to attend Tradfest and then travel onwards to Showcase Scotland at Celtic Connections. At Showcase Scotland, Ireland has been selected as focus country and next week, six Irish Showcase artists will play at a special event attended by over 200 industry personnel.
Founded in 2006, TradFest is Ireland’s largest festival of traditional music but also covers a wide range of other music genres and offers audiences unique opportunities to experience live music in some of Dublin’s most historic places. This year’s venues run from Whelan’s to Rathfarnham Castle and from City Hall to the Porterhouse. Irish artists at all stages of their careers are featured – the 2018 roster includes Stockton’s Wing, Wallis Bird, Jack O’Rourke, Lorcán Mac Mathúna, Laoise Kelly and Maria Doyle Kennedy.
For the international guests, the Tradfest weekend will be followed by a special programme put together by Culture Ireland including a special session at the renowned Cobblestone pub in Smithfield and a sneak preview of Drogheda and its plans as home for the Fleadh Cheoil in 2018.
Culture Ireland is grateful to the industry partners - Showcase Scotland and Tradfest - for all their hard work in managing and putting together a programme of the highest quality.
