From Venice to the Galway Arts Festival
If you didn’t get a chance to see Ireland’s representation at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2012, you will now have a chance to see it at Galway Arts Festival in July.
The Biennale is the most important international cultural arena in which to platform Ireland's architects.
Shifting Ground from heneghan peng architects was Ireland's official entry at the Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition in 2012.
For the Irish Pavilion in Venice, heneghan peng architects designed an oscillating ‘bench’ that invites visitors to balance their respective weights. The work considers issues of geometry and numbers in the architects’ work, while the level of the 'bench' was measured from the mark of the acqua alta (water line) on the old brickwork of the Arsenale building in Venice.
The installation in Galway will be interactive, with viewers invited to physically engage with the exhibit and collaborate with each other.
Ireland at Venice 2012 is an initiative of the Culture Ireland Division of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the Arts Council.
