Dublin Dance Festival Opens Today
With an impressive programme of Irish and international dance artists, the Dublin Dance Festival kicks off later today with the premiere of Colin Dunne’s new work Concert at the Project Arts Centre.
Founded in 2002, the Festival has become a key national event in the Irish dance calendar and through Culture Ireland support, has attracted a large range of international programmers and festival directors.
This year, nearly 20 international delegates will visit Dublin to see Irish and international dance artists and in particular, sample the work of the emerging artists through the First Looks programme strand, a showcase initiative of Culture Ireland, Dance Ireland and Dublin Dance Festival.
First Looks is a programme of new Irish work-in-development, and a key part of the Originate programme foregrounding Irish work. It is also the primary platform for Irish choreographers to introduce new work to Irish and international presenters and audiences. Over the years, many of these works have gone on to be produced as full length pieces at the Dublin Dance Festival and have toured successfully both at home and abroad.
Artists featured in this year’s First Looks include Sibéal Davitt, Liz Roche and Liam Scanlon.
