Deadline Extended for WOMEX delegate applications
The deadline for submitting applications to attend WOMEX World Music Expo as part of the Irish delegation has been extended to 5pm Wednesday 14th August. WOMEX, which will take place from 23rd to 27th October, has fast become the most important international professional market for world music of every kind including folk, roots, ethnic and traditional music.
Culture Ireland has led the Irish delegation of musicians, agents and promoters to WOMEX since 2010, creating and supporting opportunities for Irish artists to build their international networks and generate tour bookings. The four-day event attracts over 2,250 delegates from over 90 countries, including hundreds of concert and festival bookers, labels, publishers, distributors, managers and the world's media.
This year, in addition to the national stand, Culture Ireland in partnership with the Arts Council of Ireland and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, will support the largest delegation of Irish music artists and industry professionals to attend the event. A limited number of delegate bursaries are available for professional Irish artists and managers to travel to WOMEX as part of this year's Irish delegation. The bursary is aimed at those artists and promoters who have a track record of touring internationally, have excellent promotional material available [CDs, website etc] and who would benefit from attending the event to promote their work at this particular music industry marketplace.
Applicants from the Republic of Ireland should apply through the Arts Council of Ireland's Travel and Training Award. The award [€500 per delegate] is towards the costs of return flights, registration and a contribution towards accommodation and subsistence. Only one delegate bursary will be awarded per group.
