Culture Programme on State Visits to Australia and New Zealand

Today, in Wellington, New Zealand, a special concert takes place on the occasion of the State Visit to New Zealand by President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins and Sabina Higgins.

The performance, taking place at the Te Papa Museum will feature artists from Ireland and New Zealand in a special collaborative performance entitled MOTU:OILEÁIN. Irish artists Tóla Custy, Alan Doherty, Gerry Paul and Pauline Scanlon join New Zealand band Trinity Roots.

The President and Sabina Higgins will join the artists tonight along with over 350 special guests.

This event is presented by Culture Ireland and the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade of Ireland and forms part of the wider programme for the State Visits to Australia and New Zealand.

It follows other cultural performances including a successful appearance by Ye Vagabonds (pictured above) in Sydney’s Botanic Gardens; this concert was also supported by Tourism Ireland.

In Canberra, Declan O’Rourke performed at a special Reception to mark the State Visit.
