Call for Expressions of Interest for Venice Architecture Biennale 2018

Culture Ireland and the Arts Council invite expressions of interest from an architect, architectural practice, curator or commissioner who wish to be considered to represent Ireland at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale

Applicants must demonstrate the appropriate level of knowledge and skill to manage and deliver a presentation on such an important international stage. Submissions must be received by noon, Friday 18 August 2017.

The Venice Architecture Biennale is the world’s leading architecture event, featuring more than 60 national exhibitions and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors.  Culture Ireland and the Arts Council are committed to Ireland's participation in the Venice Architecture Biennale, with the aim of increasing opportunities for, and the profile of, Irish architects internationally. As well as serving as a global showcase for Irish architecture, the Venice Architecture Biennale offers Irish architects the opportunity to engage with international audiences, influence future trends in architecture and explore their individual practice.

2018 will be a special year, with Irish architects Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects being honoured by the Board of La Biennale di Venezia with their appointment as the overall curators of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition.

The curators have chosen “Freespace” as the theme which they state describes a generosity of spirit and a sense of humanity at the core of architecture's agenda, focusing on the quality of space itself.
