Ceiliúradh (Celebration) at Royal Albert Hall to be broadcast and livestreamed tonight, April 10th
Ceiliúradh (Celebration) - an evening of music, spoken word and dance will be live-streamed to a global audience and broadcast at home on RTE television and radio.
This is the first concert to celebrate a State Visit to the Royal Albert Hall since 'Two Nations Celebrate' with Mandela in July1996 bit.ly/1qkvYmO.
The event will be streamed live on RTÉ Player (available worldwide) from 20:25 GMT +1 on 10th of April.
The BBC will present an hour long highlights programme, “Ultimate Irish Music at the Royal Albert Hall: A Presidential Celebration” on BBC 4 at 8pm on Sunday, 13th of April.
The concert will also be broadcast live on RTÉ Radio 1 (including on-line). In addition, RTÉ 1 will present a 2 hour programme on the concert from 22.15 also on the night (10th of April) and this programme will subsequently be available internationally on the RTÉ Player.
This concert will be the cultural highlight of the 4-day State visit by President Higgins and his wife, Sabina, to Britain as guests of Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle. Ceiliúradh (Celebration) will showcase the strong artistic and creative links that exist between Ireland and the United Kingdom, as well as recognising the significant contribution of the Irish community in Britain. The occasion offers the opportunity to recognise and celebrate our exceptional and long-standing cultural connections with Britain.
Special guests confirmed for Ceiliúradh (Celebration) include Paul Brady, The Gloaming, Glen Hansard and Imelda May. Also participating will be the renowned actress Fiona Shaw as well as journalists/broadcasters Dermot O'Leary, Olivia O’Leary and author Joseph O’Connor. This once off concert will also feature some surprise guests on the night.
