Leading Irish jazz quintet, Umbra, led by guitarist Chris Guilfoyle, will perform at Manchester Jazz Festival on the 28th July 2018, supported by Culture Ireland as part of GB18: Promoting Irish Arts in Britain.
Manchester jazz festival (MJF) is the UK’s leading showcase for contemporary jazz and original artists, and Umbra are one of the most promising bands to emerge on the Irish scene in many years. The calibre and quality of their music, writing and performance makes them prime candidates to showcase the best of Irish jazz talent. Regarded by All About Jazz as "Arguably one of the most exciting jazz ensembles in Europe", they were previously selected by Improvised Music Company (IMC) as the Irish 12 Points representatives in 2015, which led to a performance at InJazz showcase in Rotterdam in 2017, and this booking in Manchester.
This concert will be a free-to-attend and on an open-air stage on the final day of Manchester's 9-day celebration of innovative contemporary music, offering opportunities for audiences to discover fresh and progressive artists like Umbra, who both challenge and excite in their high quality live performances.
