Direct from Ireland: The 2018 Comhaltas Concert Tour of Britain is part of Culture Ireland’s 2018 GB Programme. Echoes of Erin, starring Ireland’s leading traditional musicians, singers and dancers brings two hours of the best of traditional entertainment to nine venues throughout Great Britain. It illustrates the scope of the various traditional art forms, all aspects of solo and group instrumental music, songs as Gaeilge and traditional ballads, various forms of traditional dancing and the art of storytelling and recitation. The repertoire will reflect the variety within the traditional idiom: slip-jigs, polkas, barn dances, slow airs etc. with jigs, reels and hornpipes – old favourites, lesser known repertoire and newly composed tunes.
Fear A’ Tí, Cork’s Dic Béimis, narrator and raconteur, has an established rapport with audiences throughout the Diaspora. From Galway and Fermanagh traditional singers Vera Barrett and Gareth Maguire sing a variety of Irish interest songs. Ciara Horan, Leona Bowe and Séamus Morrison are champion step dancers with wide experience of Irish and world stages as has All-Ireland Champion sean-nós /set dancer Davog Frayne. The instrumentalists include Birmingham’s Comhaltas veteran Vincent Jordan, on piano accordion and All-Ireland Champion/nationally renowned musicians: Niamh Nic Gloinn (Harp), Jack Mc Partlin (Uilleann Pipes) John Mc Cann (Button Accordion), David Vesey (Flute) Tadhg Mulligan (Bazouki / fiddle), Aisling Murphy (fiddle), Shane Scanlon (Banjo/Mandolin) and Chloe Feeney (concertina/melodeon).
